All Were Great in 98: Justine Waddell

The Story So Far…
Raised in Johannesburg; started acting at Cambridge. First role was opposite Ralph Fiennes in Ivanov at London’s Almeida theatre. On TV, played Laura in BBC1’s Woman in White last Christmas, but made her name as Hardy’s heroine in ITV’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles in March.

Next Movie?
Big in costume. Went straight from the BBC film of Mansfield Park, to its forthcoming dramatisation of Great Expectations, as Estella.

What’s So Great About Her?
Bright, feisty and only 23. Tess producer Sarah Wilson says, “There was also an innocence about her, which was essential, but she needed to mature to find an earthly sexuality…”
